Directive 2002/49 was implemented in compliance with Legislative Decree n.194 of 19 August 2005 which defines the areas of competence and procedures for:

• preparing the acoustic zoning plan and the strategic acoustic maps;
• preparing and adopting the appropriate action plans in order to reduce noise impact;
• providing information to the public.

The preparation of the acoustic zoning plan and strategic acoustic maps, as well as of the related action plans, was assigned to the managing companies.
