The SEA Group’s energy management policy is inspired by the following principles:
- respect and protection of environmental quality
- reduction of potential impacts deriving from production and distribution activities
- plant efficiency and performance improvement, pursuing low consumption while maintaining comfort and service quality
- actions to ensure the engagement and accountability of each party operating in Milan Linate and Malpensa airports in adopting behaviours that are consistent with SEA’s principles
Cogeneration/trigeneration plants operating in both airports provide a significant contribution to the achievement of the SEA Group’s objectives adopting the principles set out above.
New facilities are designed to facilitate the implementation of energy consumption control policies as well as the use of renewable sources whenever possible. This also serves the purpose of ensuring development without a proportional increase in energy consumption.
Development guidelines also include increasing attention to territorial synergies (already successfully tested in Linate).
SEA Energia
SEA Energia operates the cogeneration plants of the Malpensa and Linate airports: currently entirely owned by SEA, it designs, builds and operates energy cogeneration plants for the supply, production and sale of electric, thermal and refrigerating energy.
SEA Energia meets all of Malpensa’s energy requirements through its trigeneration plant, operating since 1998, which allows the airport to be energetically self-sufficient.
The success of trigeneration at Malpensa led the company to start a new cogeneration plant at Linate, where the generated heat is also used to provide district heating to an extensive urban area in east Milan.
In addition to producing energy for the two airports, SEA Energia also supplies electric power to the market.
