DESCRIPTION:
MEGA 2 project is focused on preparation of the second design phase (final designs) of the multimodal infrastructure of “Milan East Gate Hub”, which includes the Milan-Segrate East Gate high speed rail station, and the subway link between the said station and the Core Network Airport of Milan Linate.
This project represents the second and crucial design phase needed for issuing of the building permit, continuation to preparation of the Detailed design and implementation of works. The first design phase was already completed in 2022 under the CEF co-financed Action 2019-IT-TM-0171-S. To allow integration of active mobility in the Hub, the project also includes complete design of cycling and pedestrian connections to/from Milan-Segrate East Gate Station and Milan Linate station.

RESULTS:
This project will result in finalized designs of the following three components of Milan East Gate Hub:

    •    A new high speed railway station: Milan-Segrate East Gate Station, that will integrate different railway lines, the highspeed line (Turin- Milan-Bergamo - Brescia-Verona-Padua-Venice), the regional lines of Lombardy Region, and suburban lines of the east metropolitan area of Milan.

    •    Direct subway link (extension of the existing M4 line) between this new high speed railway station and the Airport of Milan Linate, allowing a smooth air-rail connection between the high-speed line of the Mediterranean corridor and a core airport node of the TEN-T network.

    •    Cycling and pedestrian connections in the Hub, that will foster the active mobility in the area and create a more inclusive mobility.

SEA MILAN AIRPORTS MAIN ROLE:
SEA main role is to develop the final design of the cycling and pedestrian connection in Linate Airport to connect the M4 Linate station and the Linate Airport to the shared mobility interchange park, fostering integrated mobility in and around the Milan East Gate Hub.
